The ladies who wanted to adopt this beautiful boy called Cape of Good Hope SPCA to get an update and to see if they could follow through with the adoption since it seems that no one was there to fetch him.
They were then told that he was put down because he was placed in a cage with another cat with feline HIV.
We are disgusted. We feel helpless. We feel absolutely awful about this.
When they came out on Sunday evening, we were amazed. We were do grateful. No one else was answering calls. It was also a public holiday on the Monday. We were just so glad that this kitty was going to get some medical attention. He was super affectionate and so in love with his new mom. But we knew that we first needed to check if he had a chip or not and also, make sure that he did not have any diseases that he could pass around to our other cats in the complex. So the SPCA coming out was a dream. We were reassured that he would get medical attention and that he would be up for adoption in a week's time (just in case he did have an owner who would show up).
We left contact details for updates. We begged them to inform the people that he had a family to go to. We just wanted to go through the proper adoption process.
So, to find out that he was put down (and most likely not even tested for feline HIV) was devastating.
I am going to be calling to find out exactly what happened. We were unfortunately never given a reference number.
But this is not okay. We should have been given an update. And they should never have put down a healthy cat. I think they lost track and did not even inform anyone that he had a home to go to.
I don't even know what to say anymore.
After Goose dying, after this gorgeous boy being put down... I have no trust in the world anymore. I am broken.
