With a population of barely 3,000 people, the Digueois take pleasure in riding their bicycles as their primary mode of transportation, in contrast to the larger neighboring islands of Mahé and Praslin, which have seen more urbanization. Bicycling has traditionally been a part of life for the people, who don't need a car.

"Ever since we were kids, my brother has tried to teach us how to ride a bike." They hold the seat while you believe they are holding it, then let you go, causing you to tumble and lose your knees. And that's how Florie Marie, a La Digue inhabitant, learned to ride a bike. "My sister, who lives in Mahé, still doesn't know how to ride a bike."
