To reach another Champions League final, Real Madrid must overcome Manchester City over two legs, and David Alaba is eager to annoy his former coach Pep Guardiola.
Since joining Los Merengues on a Bosman move in the summer, Alaba has been a revelation in defense, filling the leadership gap left by Sergio Ramos, and he will play a key role in the two matches against the Premier League champions.
"We haven't spoken in a while, but it will be great to meet Pep again," Alaba said in a Bild interview.
"At Bayern, we had a great time together. This time, however, it's all about annoying him."
Alaba is hoping to put his Champions League experience to good use.
Alaba is one of the few Real Madrid players to have won several Champions League titles outside of the club, and he expects to use that experience against the Blues in future matches.
"We have to be well prepared," he stressed.
"Of course, we aim to make it to the final, and once you're there, you want to win it."
"First, we have two games against a very tough opponent."
Karim Benzema's contribution will be essential.
Alaba is witnessing Karim Benzema's best run of the season, but he previously played with prolific goal scorer Robert Lewandowski and drew analogies between the two.
He continued, "Benzema has always been world-class, but he has improved much more."
"Lewandowski? He is disliked by all defenders who have the misfortune of having to play against him."
