Some of the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) finalists' instructors and trainers have pushed for additional practical sessions in science lessons.
They believe this will go a long way toward bridging the gap between scientific students' theoretical and practical knowledge.
During a tour to the Sharjah Museum in Dubai by the 2021 NSMQ finalists, it was discovered that the students were unable to use their knowledge in rearranging the elements of a mock digestive system.
Winners of the 2021 edition from Prempeh College and other finalists from PRESEC-Legon and KETASCO offered their professors a reason to focus more on practical lessons in class after displaying their knowledge effectively on the NSMQ stage.
Various practical demonstrations of scientific experiments are on display at the Museum to pique the curiosity of young people in science.
Visitors can try their hands on the set ups in physics, chemistry, biology, and other science subjects to comprehend the reasoning behind each experiment.
The three teams from Prempeh College, Keta SHTS, and PRESEC-Legon won the respect of their peers in the school for better interactions during an electricity show during their first turn.
However, all the three teams failed to appropriately organize the sections of the digestive system one after the other, revealing a clear gap in their practical understanding.
Their teachers were aware of this and vowed to push for a change in teaching styles and procedures to ensure that students put their newly gained information into practice.
"In the future, when we go back, we'll notify the teachers so that when they're teaching them models like this, they'll allow students to actively participate by mending themselves," one teacher explained.

The students were visiting the Museum as part of an Adansi Travels-sponsored all-expenses-paid trip.
They began their journey in Nairobi, Kenya, at a giraffe center and a carnivore restaurant.

Prempeh College, the NSMQ winners in 2021, also failed the test.
