Pep Guardiola is considering a new squad approach for Manchester City as injuries continue to plague the club.

Pep Guardiola believes he may reconsider his preference for working with a small team, as Manchester City is hampered by injury at the end of the season. Due to injuries to John Stones, Kyle Walker, and Nathan Ake, as well as Joao Cancelo's ban, the Blues may be down to only three fit defenders for Real Madrid's visit on Tuesday.

And this has brought into question Guardiola's preferred approach of working with a small team - the Blues have the third-smallest senior squad in the Premier League. The manager claims he has no intentions to change that, although they are expecting to add a striker to the squad in the summer, with plans to sign Erling Haaland moving forward. In the two recent games against Liverpool, Guardiola filled his subs' bench with academy players, but Liverpool had eight senior outfield players and an Irish international goalkeeper on their bench. The City leader, on the other hand, seems unconcerned about working with a small, close-knit team and delving into the academy to make up the numbers.

He indicated he would "maybe" consider a different strategy, but added, "I don't like it." I'm sorry to leave four or five players on the bench who don't get much playing time — I don't want to be number eight, nine, or ten.

"That is why the academy is critical in providing further depth; with their quality, they can assist us in becoming more stable." We are sometimes fortunate to have fresh technologies and new ideas."They assist players in staying in shape. Everyone was fit at the end of the quadruple (Premier League, domestic cups, and Community Shield). We are now in a position to do the same — we have issues in a number of key areas, and you must adjust."

Guardiola said the problems he's seeing today - his medical staff has dealt with 71 injuries since the Atletico Madrid draw to Liverpool's FA Cup semi-final defeat last week - are similar to what teams face throughout the winter season.

"Normally, it happens in November and December, but we're having a lot of problems right now," he explained. "When we come with one month to go, the players will realize we're in trouble when a winger needs to play," says the coach.
