A adolescent magnet fisherman recovered a safe carrying thousands of dollars from a river and returned it to its rightful owner, who had it stolen 22 years before.
Three weeks ago, George Tindale, 15, was searching the River Witham in Grantham, Lincs, with his father Kevin, 52, when he discovered the remarkable find.
The father and son unearthed the old safe and were taken aback when they discovered a bag holding 2,500 Australian dollars (about £1,400) among the dirt and filth.
The safe had been stolen from businessman Rob Everett during a burglary at his workplace in 2000, unbeknownst to the two.
A shotgun certificate and bank cards that had expired in 2004 were also found inside, providing George and Kev with enough information to trace them down.
