Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger looks increasingly likely to join Real Madrid when his contract expires in the summer, although other clubs remain interested in the German.
It was widely reported this week that the 29-year-old will leave west London at the end of the season, having reportedly turned down the club’s latest offer.
The player is believed to be unwilling to wait for the arrival of new owners before deciding upon his future, and has instead made it clear he will leave by rejecting an offer of £200,000-per-week.
Rudiger has played more minutes than any other outfield player for Chelsea this term, and Thomas Tuchel will almost certainly look to replace his fellow countryman when he does depart.
According to Goal, Real Madrid are now in pole position to land the Germany international when he does depart the capital.
The FA Cup final against Liverpool could be one of Rudiger’s last games for Chelsea.
The Spanish side are in advanced talks with the player’s representatives, and a pre-contract agreement could even be penned before the end of the season.
A number of clubs were interested in Rudiger, who has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most impressive defenders in recent months.
The likes of Manchester United and Barcelona were also believed to be interested, although the latter have reportedly already agreed a deal to sign Rudiger’s Blues teammate Andreas Christensen.
The Dane’s contract is also set to expire this summer, and he will reportedly join Barcelona straight away.
Rudiger was close to agreeing a deal that would have made him Chelsea’s highest paid defender, but is adamant that his future must be settled in the coming weeks and the confusion surrounding the club’s takeover means that he will instead leave.
The German has been crucial to much of Chelsea’s recent success, playing 47 times across all competitions this term, but is expected to miss the visit of West Ham on Sunday through injury.
