Beginning April 28, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organized a series of activities across the country to commemorate Ghana's 30 years of uninterrupted constitutional governance.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Tema on Sunday, Mr Samuel Asare Akuamoah, the NCCE Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operations, said, "The success of constitutional rule in Ghana is categorized as a fundamental accomplishment of all Ghanaians."
He explained that, given the country's tumultuous democratic history, the Commission set out to defend the Fourth Republic by establishing the Annual Constitution Week Celebration.
The Week was established in 2001 to remember the country's restoration to constitutional democratic rule, which occurred on April 28, 1992, when the electorate approved the draft Fourth Republican Constitution in a referendum, which went into effect on January 7, 1993.
"The Annual Constitution Week has been observed from April 28 to May 4 since its beginning. The Fourth Republic is celebrating 30 years of constitutional government this year, despite the fact that it is still young in comparison to developed democracies," Mr Akuamoah added.
"As a result, Ghanaians must fight tirelessly to consolidate the country's embryonic democracy for the greater good."
