Dr Kingsley Nyarko, the Kwadaso Member of Parliament (MP), has urged residents to help the police weed out criminals in the community by providing crucial information that will lead to their arrest.

He stated that it was critical for the public to work successfully with the police in order to maintain social order and peace at all times.

At a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of an ultra-modern police station in Pokukrom, a community in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region, Dr Nyarko made the statement.

The project, which is expected to cost GHC 500,000.00, is being sponsored by the MP from his Common Fund share and will take six months to complete.

There will include male and female cells, as well as washrooms and police officer offices.

The work is being handled by Nana Banahene Company Limited, a local contractor in the Kwadaso Municipality.

Dr. Nyarko added that community complaints indicated a high rate of robbery attacks in the area, but that getting the police to intervene in time was difficult.

As a result, he added, the police station will maintain sufficient security in the community and its environs, enhancing the welfare of residents, which was his main emphasis.

In response to the project being awarded to a local contractor, the MP stated that a local contractor will employ people from the community, so creating jobs, as well as speed up construction through continual supervision.

He urged the public to work with the contractor to guarantee that the project was finished on time.

The Abuakwa District Police Commander, Superintendent Vitus Napen, said it was past time for the community to have its own police station to avoid residents from having to travel long distances to report crimes.

Pokukrom was chosen as the location for the police station because the area has recently seen an increase in criminal activity, he explained.

The station's development would provide respite to the Command, which had been tasked with overseeing a broad area in its operations, according to Supt. Napen.

He praised the MP for taking the step, which he said will improve police operations in the area by reducing criminal activity.
