After Jorginho missed a penalty, Christian Pulisic scored a late goal to give Chelsea a 1-0 victory over West Ham United at Stamford Bridge.
Craig Dawson was the unsung hero of the London derby between Chelsea and West Ham United at Stamford Bridge, holding the Hammers' backline together almost single-handedly for 85 minutes. Unfortunately, the centre-back was sent off for a tackle on Romelu Lukaku, allowing a crucial penalty to be awarded.
Chelsea appeared to be on their way to winning the game with a penalty kick and a numerical advantage, but Jorginho, who is known for his brilliance from the spot, missed his attempt with a poor kick towards Lukasz Fabianski, who held on with ease. The Blues appeared to be on the verge of losing at Stamford Bridge at the time, but substitute Christian Pulisic rose to the occasion.
From a Marcos Alonso cutback from outside the box, the American was in the correct spot to poke in the late winner. Chelsea extended their advantage in third place with the win, after Arsenal narrowed the distance with a win against Manchester United on Saturday.
Chelsea secured a late win against London rivals West Ham United at Stamford Bridge, and here's how the players fared.
Chelsea
6/10 – Edouard Mendy
Mendy enjoyed a far more calm day than he did against Arsenal in midweek. When called into action outside of his zone, the keeper had good command of his territory and timed several of his sprints perfectly. He didn't have much to save because the Hammers could only attack his goal on rare occasions.
6/10-Trevoh Chalobah
After Andreas Christensen dropped out before kickoff, he was inserted late into the lineup. Chalobah dealt well with West Ham's attacks and made good use of the ball when he had it.
Thiago Silva - 6/10.
The veteran defender was able to marshal the backline and keep things in check in defence, making life difficult for the Hammers' attackers. In the penalty incident, Silva played a significant role.
5/10 Cesar Azpilicueta
Azpilicueta had a disappointing day, as he appeared to be off his game for the whole of the game. He performed admirably in the well-organized backline and aided the assault whenever he was given the opportunity to rush forward.
6.5/10 Ruben Loftus-Cheek
After a stuttering first half, Loftus-Cheek began to assert himself in the second half, and he remained a menace along Chelsea's right flank until his substitution.
7/10 N'Golo Kante
After a poor run of games recently, the Frenchman put up a better performance. Kante was effective in midfield, recycling the ball nicely. Fabianski also stopped a deflected attempt from him.
5/10-Jorginho
For the majority of the game, the midfielder was OK, but he fluffed his lines from the penalty spot in a potentially game-changing moment. Jorginho sent a weak attempt straight into Fabianski's arms, which appeared to be a squandered opportunity at the time.
7/10 Marcos Alonso
Alonso was a persistent menace down the left channel, and although squandering a couple decent chances in front of goal, the winger made a significant impact by assisting on the game-winning goal.
5/10-Mason Mount
Mount did not participate in the game, other from having a possible goal-scoring opportunity denied by Dawson. He failed to have an impact on the game as Chelsea searched for motivation to score a goal.
4/10-Kai Havertz
Havertz's previous strong form seemed to have seeped away as he battled once more. Despite offering a good outlet as part of the front two, the German was not at his best.
Timo Werner- 5/10
Another striker who struggled in the first half before showing signs of improvement in the second. Werner made threats from time to time, but he never delivered the final thing.
5/10 – Hakim Ziyech
Since coming in, he has had little impact, but his presence has undoubtedly pushed the West Ham defense back in expectation of his deep balls.
Christian Pulisic is a 7/10 player.
Pulisic made the game-changing impact by scoring the game's late winner to give Chelsea a much-needed victory at Stamford Bridge.
Lukaku, Romelu – 6/10
Chelsea won the penalty thanks to good movement in and around the area, but Jorginho fluffed his lines.
West Ham United
8/10 for Lukasz Fabianski
After surrendering a late goal, Fabianski will be dissatisfied with how the game concluded. However, the Pole was outstanding in goal throughout the match, saving a penalty from Jorginho to keep his club in the game.
7/10 – Ben Johnson
Johnson accomplished a terrific job in center defense, where he was forced to play owing to a lack of choices by Moyes. The full-back will look back on this match favourably after making multiple clearances and holding the Blues' attackers in check.
Craig Dawson 8/10
West Ham's sole surviving senior centre-back put in an outstanding performance, as he was everywhere in the backline, either killing assaults or making important stops to hold Chelsea at bay. He deserved a severe red card in the end for his pull-back on Lukaku, which culminated in the Chelsea penalty.
7/10 Aaron Cresswell
Cresswell, like Johnson, performed admirably as part of a three-man central defense, making important interceptions and blocks throughout the game to hold Chelsea at bay.
Vladimir Coufal- 5/10
Coufal had a quiet day at work, looking uninterested in making forward runs as the Hammers attempted to maintain a tight defensive line. Chelsea's winner of the afternoon, though, came from his wing.
7/10 -Tomas Soucek
Despite the absence of his customary companion, Declan Rice, Soucek was effective in center midfield. Mark Noble was an excellent supporter of the Czech Republic international, whose aggressiveness aided West Ham on several occasions throughout the encounter.
6/10 – Mark Noble
The experienced West Ham captain put in a relentless display, filling in admirably for the rested Rice. Given that this was his first Premier League start since February, he was somewhat rusty, but he persevered throughout his time on the field.
5/10 for Arthur Masuaku
Masuaku put in a poor showing, struggling to deal with the dual danger of Havertz and Loftus-Cheek down his side. He struggled to stay relevant because he had little say in the attack when he wasn't there.
5/10 for Pablo Fornals
Fornals had little influence on the game pushing forward in attack, as the Hammers' whole lineup sat deep and defended, hoping to find a way through counterattacks.
6/10 Andriy Yarmolenko
There were a few opportunities when Yarmolenko might have done better, but the Ukrainian was repeatedly caught offside, sabotaging West Ham's scarce offensive opportunities.
6.5/10 – Said Benrahma
Benrahma was one of West Ham's top attacking players. He was a menace to Chelsea's defense since he led the press for his team and was always attempting to generate chances for his teammates.
Declan Rice (substitutes) – 5/10
Rice had a while to get into his stride after replacing Noble, but he managed to keep things under control in midfield.
Jarrod Bowen 5/10
Bowen didn't make much of an effect after coming in, save for one instance when he should have taken a shot when given the chance.
Lanzini, Manuel – 5 of 10
