Arsenal is rumoured to be interested in signing Manchester City's Gabriel Jesus. The Gunners have chosen the Brazilian forward as their summer top target, according to sources from The Athletic (via the Daily Mail).

Mikel Arteta's team has begun scouting the market for attacking reinforcements ahead of next season. Arsenal's senior strikers are simply Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah.

With their contracts scheduled to expire this summer, both players appear poised to leave the Emirates. Arsenal technical director Edu has been in contact with Jesus' representatives in recent months, according to the aforementioned article.

Mikel Arteta also knows the 25-year-old from his time as Pep Guardiola's assistant at Manchester City. According to the article, Jesus is under contract with the Sky Blues until the summer of 2023, and negotiations for a new contract have yet to begin.

In 2017, the Brazilian joined Manchester City from Palmeiras. He was regarded as one of the best talents in international football at the time, and he had a promising start in English football.

The 25-year-old, though, degenerated into a bit-part player at the Etihad as time passed. This season, the Brazilian international has only started 21 games for the Cityzens in all competitions, coming on as a replacement 13 times. Jesus has had an impact this season despite not being a regular starter, with seven goals and 11 assists. According to The Daily Mail, Jesus' future at Manchester City appears to be in jeopardy, with the Sky Blues pursuing Erling Haaland in a blockbuster transfer.

Pep Guardiola may be willing to sell the Brazilian, who is entering the final year of his contract, rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer.

Is Gabriel Jesus Arsenal's answer to their woes?

Gabriel Jesus is a capable attacker, but he won't make a significant difference for the Gunners. If the north London club wants to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool, they need to find a striker with world-class talent.

Because of his versatility and Premier League experience, Jesus, if available at a reduced price, may be a good signing for the Gunners.
