Many people have killed and others have been displaced in Ethiopia as the government attempts to reclaim control of the Tigray Region.
Terrorism, banditry, kidnappings, and secessionist movements have all fueled violence in Nigeria.
Ethiopia has been in the headlines a lot recently, but for all the wrong reasons. The Horn of Africa country was apparently on the verge of being fully destabilized owing to armed war in 2021. Regrettably, the conflict has not yet subsided. And it isn't the only African country experiencing comparable problems. There are numerous conflict hotspots around the continent. Whether it's an insurgency, resource control agitations, militancy, open terrorism, or full-fledged wars, several organizations have taken to guns to oppose various African regimes. And these African regimes have retaliated by using brutal force, resulting in wars that are rapidly spiraling out of control. In this article, we shall be looking at the to five conflict hotspots in Africa, focusing on how the economies in these regions have been affected by said conflicts.
1. The Ethiopian Conflict
There have been a number of violent battles and isolated killings across Ethiopia since 2017. It's practically impossible to keep track of all the deaths at this point. Following Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's government's military attack against the Tigray Region in 2021, the conflicts appeared to have escalated.
As you may be aware, the conflict between the Ethiopian government and Tigrayan forces began when the ruling party requested that an already scheduled 2020 general election be canceled because to the health hazards posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Tigrayans angrily protested the request, and went on to hold elections in their region. The Ethiopian government appears to have interpreted this as a separatist movement.

Since November 2020 till date, both the military and Tigrayan forces have fought actively. And just last month, there were invasion threats on the capital city of Addis Ababa. In response, many Western countries advised their citizens to leave the country, even as some companies also flew out some of their workers. In the meantime, businesses and diplomatic missions have continued to be affected by the ongoing conflict.
Note that Ethiopia is a very important country in Africa. It is considered the only African country that was never colonised. It is also Africa's second most populous country besides Nigeria. More so, the headquarters of the Africa Union is located there. So, it is very important to resolve the conflict before it gets out of hands.
Both military and Tigrayan troops have been engaged in combat since November 2020. Last month, the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa was threatened with invasion. As a result, numerous Western countries have recommended their people to flee the country, while some businesses have also flown out some of their employees. Meanwhile, the protracted violence has continued to have an impact on businesses and diplomatic offices.
It's worth noting that Ethiopia is a major African country. It is thought to be the only African country that have never been colonized. Apart from Nigeria, it is Africa's second most populous country. The Africa Union's headquarters are also located there. As a result, it's critical to end the disagreement before it spirals out of control.
2. Civil War in Cameroon
Unlike the media spotlight on the Ethiopian conflict, the ongoing civil war in Cameroon doesn't really get a lot of media reportage. And that is mainly due to the government's alleged efforts to hide the carnage from the rest of the world. This notwithstanding, the truth remains that Southern Cameroon has been in turmoil for many months now. There have been allegations of genocide, rape and other atrocities as the government forces continue to battle separatists in Anglophone territories of Ambazonia.
