Atlantic Lifesciences Limited, a pharmaceutical business, has opened a large-scale factory to produce intravenous (IV) fluids, antiserums, and vaccinations for the West African market.

The $35 million specialised factory, which includes a sterile pharmaceutical facility for manufacturing infusions, eye drops, vaccinations, serums, injections, and general anaesthetic medications, was funded by the Ghana Export Import (EXIM) Bank and Standard Chartered Bank, as well as the company's own funds.

The plant, which operates under the government's One-District, One-Factory (1D1F) initiative and is located near Old Ningo in the Ningo-Prampram District of the Greater Accra Region, has become the 107th factory to be operationalised under the initiative, which has 278 enterprises being established and rehabilitated across the country.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo inaugurated the Atlantic Lifesciences factory on Friday, bringing the total number of infusion manufacturing companies in Ghana to five, with a combined annual capacity of 133 million bottles.

Atlantic Lifesciences Ltd is a sister business of Pharmanova Ltd, and the two companies work together to make inhalation anaesthetics, eye, ear, and nasal drops, and vaccines.

Pharmanova is West Africa's leading importer of anti-snake serum and anti-rabies vaccine.
