Dr Tina Abrefa-Gyan, the Deputy Director of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), has urged young people to enrol in technical, vocational education and training (TVET) to help the country fulfil its consumer demands.
She said that this would not only economically empower people, but also assist minimise the negative impacts of heavy importation on the currency rate, putting the economy on a more stable footing.
"The recent decrease in the rate of our currency demonstrates that, in order to prevent the negative consequences of excessive importation on the exchange rate, we must manufacture most of the products we use ourselves and limit importation."
"We need to train more trained workers to take on the task of producing to fulfil our country's consumption demands," she remarked at the 2nd Image International Skills College's 21st graduation ceremony in Accra.
Graduation
"TVET: Life Possibilities Despite the Pandemic" was the topic of the graduation.
Hair and Beauty, Beauty and Spa, Facial Therapy, Cosmetology, Body Massage, Beautician, Hairdressing, Fashion Design, Beauty Specialist, and National Proficiency were among the 185 students that received their diplomas.
The Ghana National Tailors Association (GNTDA) was responsible for 36 of the total, which was entirely supported by the government under the CTVET/Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Voucher Project (GTVP).
The Ghanaian-German Finance Cooperation initiative is co-financed by the German government through KfW.
Appeal
Clint Boa-Amponsem, Director of Administration at 2nd Image International Skills College, made a plea for cash to help TVET facilitators.
He stated that the funding will assist the facilitators in obtaining greater credentials and training for the country's benefit.
Mr. Boa-Amponsem pointed out that the college lacked resources to assist facilitators with continuing education.
"Because we don't have any for our facilitators, Nikki Boa Amponsem, the Chief Executive Officer of 2nd Image International Skills College, fought to be accredited by ITEC, a world qualification examination body that provides leading international qualifications, specialising in Beauty and Spa Therapy, Hairdressing, Complementary Therapies, and other fields," he explained.
