A 20-year-old Okada rider was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Asamankese Circuit Court in the Eastern area, presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adam, for robbing a student of his iPhone 7.
According to the information supplied by Prosecutor Inspector Samuel Owusu, the imprisoned Emmanuel Afanu and his now-at-large accomplice both reside in Mepom.
They, on the other hand, planned to commit robbery, and on April 8, 2022, at 7:50 p.m., the offender and his accomplice accosted and robbed a student Sakyi Michael of his iPhone 7 and money worth GH2,500 with scissors while walking home in Yayo, a suburb of Asamankese.
The felon and his accomplice attempted to flee on their motorcycle, but they were apprehended.
However, the victim managed to get a grip of Emmanuel Afanu's shirt and fought him, but Afanu stabbed him with the scissors before fleeing with the phone.
According to the prosecution, the victim cried for help, which drew nearby neighbours to the scene. The culprit was apprehended when they were chased.
He was handed over to the Asamankese Police, who charged him with the crime and arraigned him following an inquiry.
He entered a guilty plea.
