Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice-President, has paid tribute to Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, on his 103rd birthday.

He praised the Chief Imam as a man of peace, claiming that the country's current state of peace is due to Sheikh Sharubutu's knowledge, which he utilized to bring everyone together.

Dr Bawumia, who attended the centenarian's birthday celebration at the Chief Imam's New Fadama house in Accra on Saturday, stated that when the centenarian was born, "we did not realise that he was a gift from Allah to the country."

"We are honouring him, and we are doing it while praising Allah for his life during this month of Ramadan," he continued.

A PEACEFUL COUNTRY

Dr. Bawumia explained that the country's status as the most peaceful in West Africa and the second most peaceful on the African continent had not come easily because many neighbouring nations were not at peace.

"We enjoy peace due of our varied people and religions working together." Everyone in the country now recognises that the peace we have today is largely due to the Chief Imam's ability to bring us all together.

"As citizens and Muslims, we are grateful to Almighty Allah for the life of the Chief Imam." We wish him a long life and excellent health so that we can return for his 104th birthday celebration next year," he said.

"It is the obligation of any son, when his father has gained this blessing from Allah, to come personally to congratulate and pray for him," the Vice-President, whom the Chief Imam hailed as his son, added.

PRAYERS

Sheikh Sharubutu pleaded for Allah's forgiveness, compassion, and salvation for the nation in his response, noting that these are the three qualities that people must aspire to.

He added the prayer was crucial, especially during Ramadan, since "we hope Allah secures the Vice-requirements President's and wants."

"May Allah protect and give them abundant blessings and also inspire them with ideas that will help them lead the country to prosperity," the Chief Imam said through his spokesperson, Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu. He also prayed for Allah's protection for the nation and the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Sheikh Sharubutu also took use of the opportunity to interpret several Quran passages in order to honour Allah.
