Epsy Campbell Barr, Costa Rica's Vice President, has revealed her African ancestry.
She told a crowd in Accra, Ghana, during a Return Mission for Africans in the Diaspora, that her family DNA tests confirmed that she is indeed an African.
This, she explained, is because her results revealed that she was from a number of African countries, including Ghana, which she was overjoyed to learn about.
"I'm an African descendent and daughter, with ancestors from Nigeria, Mali, Benin, Togo, Ivory Coast, and Ghana, as well as Cameroon, Congo, and the Bantu people of the West."
"This is what my family DNA tests revealed, and it's why I can confidently state that I'm glad to be here, that I'm an African daughter," she said.
Epsy Campbell Barr also sent out a message to fellow disaporans, encouraging them to return home and appreciate their ancestry.
"Today, I speak to you from the bottom of my heart to proclaim with strength that we are able to return to the generation of African people who were forcefully ripped away from their families, towns, tribes, and history," she added.
