The government has pledged to build the planned Keta Port, according to the Ministry of Transport.
The government has been working for the past two years to bring a port to Keta to completion, which includes signing an executive document demarcating the port's territory, advertising for feasibility study tenders, and hiring a director for the planned port.
At a brief ceremony to inaugurate a Health Centre at Asadame in the Keta Municipality, Mr Kweku Ofori Asiamah, Minister of Transport, said steps were underway for the development of Ghana's third commercial port, which was read on his behalf by Mr Hassan Sulemana Tampuli, his Deputy. The health center, as well as other community infrastructure such as Keta Market's pavement, a school block, and the ongoing construction of a 12-seater toilet facility at Adzido and the rehabilitation of Keta Market, were all part of the overall scope of the beach landing site and port for Keta projects, which are being implemented under the government's flagship program, coastal fish landing sites and fishing ports facilities project.
"The government's pledge to build a third commercial port here in Keta is on track," he stated. Feasibility and other investment plan studies have been completed, and a market survey session to promote the project to potential investors was conducted at the Alisa Hotel in Accra."
Mr Asiamah stated that the process of selecting an investor for the project was still on, and he requested the help of all stakeholders, particularly the traditional authority in the area, in order to guarantee a smooth process.
"Now that the feasibility studies have been completed, the Ministry of Transport is working with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority to recruit a strategic investor for the project."
I'd want to use this occasion to urge Togbiwo and Mamawo, community members, and other stakeholders, including state and non-state actors, to continue to help the government in carrying out this critical task."
