Despite head coach Xavi and sporting adviser Jordi Cruyff claiming that midfielder Frenkie de Jong is a valued vital player, Barcelona could listen to offers for the Dutchman.

De Jong's future at Camp Nou has been the subject of conjecture and anxiety this season, despite the club's financial difficulties.

The appointment of Ajax manager Erik ten Hag at Manchester United has sparked suggestions of a reunion between the two at Old Trafford - a midfielder is on the transfer radar in Manchester, with Declan Rice and Ruben Neves notable targets.

Cruyff said in response to rumors this week, "We are not going to trade Frenkie de Jong, he is a highly valued player within the club."

Xavi, however, called the 24-year-old'very significant,' insisting that he has the potential to become 'one of the finest midfielders in the world' in the future.

Despite such thunderous endorsements, Marca reports that Barcelona's hierarchy could still be receptive to De Jong proposals provided they equal the €75 million fee paid to Ajax in 2019.

According to the article, De Jong is no longer as 'at ease' at Barça as he once was. Both the player and his father had stated that there was no cause for him to leave, but this could have altered following reports that he is dissatisfied with his role under Xavi.

De Jong fails to finish games on a regular basis and has only been given more than 70 minutes in La Liga games four times since early February. Since Xavi's hiring as head coach in November, he has only played seven full matches out of 27 in all competitions.

Bayern Munich has also been linked with Manchester United. Prior to deciding on Barcelona three years ago, De Jong spoke with both PSG and Manchester City, but both clubs have other transfer priorities this summer.
