Liverpool's third Champions League semi-final under Jurgen Klopp is awaited when they host Villarreal at Anfield, a team no stranger to the Red Devils.

Liverpool have had a recent run of results, starting with a place in the FA Cup final before wins over Man United and Everton.

The excitement and it doesn't stop there as another night under the lights of Anfield awaits you on the big stage, with a chance to beat Spain in the second leg next week.

Here's everything you need to know before the game kicks off on Wednesday.

1. The Yellow Submarine

The visitors arrive at Merseyside after an eight-day break, a direct contrast to Liverpool, who will play twice in this period.

Villarreal's disruption to the schedule gave Liverpool more time to prepare after a five-match unbeaten streak, including a 21st overall victory over Bayern Munich in the final round.

Unai Emery arranges his way to the semi-finals for the second time in the club's history and Liverpool know only too well how the Villarreal boss operates on the big stage.

He was, of course, the manager of Sevilla when the two teams met in the 2016 Europa League final and while it was a disappointing night, it also proved a catalyst for Klopp's side.

2. A repeat of 2016?

A lot has changed since the two teams last met in 2016, but you can expect one thing to remain the same: the passion of the Liverpool fans.

It was a thrilling 30 win in the Europa League semi-final second leg clash with Villarreal, but the frenzy before, during and after the game will stand the test of time. 4,444 fans lined the streets to welcome Klopp's Red Devils to Anfield and did it anyway they could.

We're not sure what scaffolding is left to recreate Wednesday's scenes, but you never know because where there's a will there's a way and Liverpool fans always appreciate a challenge!

3. Visitor XI

Emery is without Red Alberto Moreno's ex after his ACL injury in March, and Gerard Moreno will also be out with a hamstring injury.

The striker has scored 13 goals in 26 games for the Spanish side this season and will not be heading to Anfield after missing training on Tuesday, but reports suggest he could be back for the second leg. .

Yeremi Pino also missed Tuesday's training session and could be sidelined, forcing Emery to shuffle his pack.

Possible Villarreal XI: Rulli; Foyth, Albiol, Torres, Estupinan; Parejo, Coquelin, Capua; Lo Celso; Chukwueze, Danjuma

4. Firmino update

The Merseyside derby has once again come too soon for Roberto Firmino due to his foot injury and the No 9 is yet to miss Wednesday.

"I think he's not ready yet," Klopp told the club's website. "He's running outside and that's fine, obviously, but I'm not sure."

It's progressing and his return doesn't seem far away, and fortunately he's still the only Red in the treatment room with nothing else to report to the director.

Kostas Tsimikas was absent from Tuesday's training session but could still have some role to play.

Either way, the luxury choice remains for Klopp as he is also looking to name a 12-man bench, meaning he won't have to drop too many players from the squad. .
