As speculation about Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski's future continues, Mundo Deportivo has published a new report that sheds light on the striker's current situation.
This summer, Lewandowski, 33, will enter the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich. Although meaningful talks about a renewal have yet to take place, club director Hasan Salihamidzic has stated that he will not be sold and that negotiations for a new contract will begin soon.
Despite those claims, it is believed that Lewandowski is looking for a new challenge in his career after winning everything at the Allianz Arena in the eight years since joining on a Bosman deal from Borussia Dortmund.
Barcelona has expressed a strong desire to sign the Poland international. With a deal for Erling Haaland falling through, Lewandowski has emerged as the top priority for president Joan Laporta, who wants to sign the 33-year-old at any cost this summer.
The Blaugrana believe that a deal for Lewandowski would be much easier than one for Haaland because he is likely to be available for less than €40 million.
Furthermore, the report claims that the legendary goalscorer is willing to reduce his current salary in order to secure a summer move to Barcelona. According to reports, Lewandowski enjoys playing for the Blaugrana and would be willing to accept a pay cut.
Given the club's financial situation, it certainly comes as a relief and would make the deal easier to complete.
However, before the transfer can take off, Barça must first sort out their finances by finalizing the CVC deal, which would net the club a whopping €270 million.
Laporta has a positive relationship with Lewandowski's agent, Pini Zahavi, which gives the Catalan giants an advantage. However, it remains to be seen whether Bayern Munich is willing to play ball or not.
