In Real Madrid's Champions League semi-final first-leg loss to Manchester City on Tuesday, Karim Benzema explained why he took a Panenka penalty.
Benzema scored a brace in a 4-3 loss at the Etihad Stadium. To make it 2-1, he scored an instinctive first-time finish from a Ferland Mendy cross, and he then halved the lead to one goal with an incredible second-half penalty kick.
Benzema explained why he chose to try the cheeky dink while speaking at full-time.
"I've always believed that if you don't take a penalty, you won't miss one."
That is all there is to mental confidence. He explained, "I have a lot of faith in myself...so I do it and it works out great."
