Mr. Osei Mensah Bonsu, Director of Labor in the Department of Youth and Sport on behalf of the Minister, Hon. On Tuesday Mustapha Ussif presented the 2023 Salah Football Africa Cup of Nations at the press conference at Accra Sports Stadium.
He said the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which will include 55 countries including Ghana as its hosts, will also focus on culture, which is why he started social events and raised awareness about Salah Football at Fadama AstroTurf on May 14 and 15.
He emphasized the need to focus on social cohesion, brotherhood, and peace, as well as on the commitment and integrity of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC).
Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, Executive Chairman of the LOC for African Games said they had visited and received blessings from the national Imam, Alhaji Dr. Sheik Sharubutu who will be in charge of the finals.
He announced a meeting with the Winneba chief at the Aboakyer Festival, and organized street shows to raise awareness of the 13th African Games.
Drs. Foros-Asare commented on the launch of the African Games Fund to which the people of Ghana should contribute.
The eight Zongo communities that will compete in the Salah tournament are Mamobi, Nima, Tudu, Cowlane, Accra New Town, Shukura, Fadama, and Madina.
In the first matches hosted by Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Mamobi will face Shukura, New Town vs Madina, Fadama will face Cowlane and Tudu will face Nima.
The Deputy Director-General (Technical) of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Kwame Amponfi Jnr. said the Salah Football tournament has arrived, as the games can be used for socio-economic development and promoting unity, morality and peace.
At-risk is the trophy awarded by Point 5 Ventures, with 10,000ghc in the finalists, 8 000ghc in second place, 6 000ghc in third place, and 4 000ghc in fourth place.
Airlines African World Airlines (AWA), Goil, and Adidas are sponsors of the program. Their various representatives, Miss Joslin Andoh, Mr. Robert Kyere, and Reks Brobbey have reaffirmed their full support and commitment regarding the 2023 African Games, the 13th edition, the first of its kind in Ghana.
