After successfully challenging a four-year conviction and incarceration in August 2021, the chief of Ayikai Doblo in the Ga West municipality, Nii Amoo Doodu, was acquitted and freed by an Accra High Court.

Nii Amoo Doodu was accused with violating Section 34(C) of the Land Registry Act 122/62 by unlawfully trading land leases with unwitting parties.

The traditional leader of the Ayikai Doblo area was accused of selling land plots to a number of people, including Samuel Atta-Mills, the Member of Parliament for Komenda/Edina/Eguafo/Abirem (KEEA), and a businesswoman from the Western North region.

In her judgement, Justice Mary M.E Nsenkyire of the High Court stated:

The judge in a 25-page ruling noted: “One fact that comes out clearly from the evidence led by the prosecution is that there is not a scintilla of evidence on the record to support the assertion that it was the accused person who granted the said piece of land to the victim.”

She added: “The prosecution, therefore, failed to lead evidence to show that it was the accused
