Declan Rice's predicament at West Ham United has been compared by Manchester United icon Gary Neville to Cristiano Ronaldo's at Old Trafford in 2009. He believes the Hammers should sell the Englishman since his departure this summer would have little impact on the club.
Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United, according to the Independent, are all interested in signing Rice this summer.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Neville stated that selling Rice would help West Ham improve their roster. He also stated that it would not create a significant hole in the starting lineup.
He linked it to Cristiano Ronaldo's departure from Manchester United for Real Madrid in 2009. Los Blancos signed the Portuguese superstar for a then-world-record sum of £80 million. Neville alluded to this by saying: "When Cristiano [Ronaldo] first left Man United, it had no effect on the club because everyone knew what was going on. There was no inquisitiveness or curiosity about what was going on. I believe West Ham and Declan Rice can afford to do so with this one because everyone understands that it will almost certainly happen."
David Moyes has reaffirmed that the Hammers will not sell Rice this summer, despite Gary Neville's Cristiano Ronaldo advise.
He argues that the midfielder's contract has more than three years left on it and that he would not be released, despite the fact that he has turned down another extension offer.
According to the Independent, the Hammers' manager said: "We didn't say anything like that. I can't say anything unless you know who said it. We haven't really responded to it, have we? I've said it, and I believe we've both said what we believe. We like Dec, and his contract is up in three and a half years, so I don't think there's any reason to be concerned."
He continued, " "We only have three and a half years, so it isn't a top priority. We have other priorities, such as expanding the squad and filling open positions. Perhaps he simply wants more money. It is fairly uncommon for players at teams to refuse contracts; this could be a negotiating technique."
According to trade specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Manchester United target has reportedly turned down a third contract offer from West Ham. He wants to leave because he wants to win trophies, which the Hammers will not be able to provide.
