Following Liverpool's stunning Champions League performance on Wednesday, ex-Manchester United great Rio Ferdinand could not disguise his enthusiasm for the Reds, and believes there is no reason why they cannot complete a clean sweep of trophy this season.
Despite a valiant effort from Villarreal, Liverpool were defeated 2-0 at Anfield, leaving Liverpool in a comfortable position going into the semi-final second leg next week.
The Champions League is one of three trophies the Reds are chasing to clinch an unprecedented quadruple, having already won the Carabao Cup.
Is it possible for Liverpool to complete the quadruple?
"I've never seen a better Liverpool team than this one. They're tenacious on and off the field "After the final whistle, Ferdinand grinned to BT Sport.
"You marvel at the way they press teams, the intensity, effort, and application."
That needs to be the goal [the quadruple]. They're going to set the goal for themselves "If they succeed, they will be immortal, surpassing anyone who has ever played the game in this country. It remains to be seen if they will be successful. However, they are currently ticking boxes along the way."
Michael Owen, a former Liverpool and United fan and current BT Sport pundit, agreed, saying, "It's the best team I've ever seen in a red shirt." Think about that [the quadruple]. It's impossible... but now you're wondering if it's possible. You're thinking, "Can it happen?" because of the way they're playing and their belief.
The Reds profit from a lucky start.
Liverpool needed a stroke of luck to take the lead when Jordan Henderson's cross bounced off Pervis Estupinan and past Geronimo Rulli, who managed to get a touch on the ball before it crossed the line, despite having 73 percent possession and 19 shots to just one for the visitors.
"We anticipated they'd make it difficult because they're a well-organized group. All that mattered was that we continued pushing and believed that we would eventually be able to break them down. We were able to accomplish this by scoring two excellent goals "BT Sport quoted Henderson as saying.
"The first one was a bit of a fluke. Good build-up but a touch of luck, as it went in off the defender and goalkeeper. When a team plays with a low block, though, a little luck is required. We got it, and it cheered up the crowd. The counter-press was excellent for the majority of the game. It was a challenge for them. But the game is still alive, and Villarreal will be difficult."
