Despite being born in Kumasi, the 28-year-old will represent the Maroons in the Gulf country's 2022 World Cup.
Ghanaians have taken to social media to criticize Mohammed Muntari's decision to play international matches for Qatar rather than the Black Stars.
The 28-year-old attacker was born in Kumasi but migrated to the Gulf country as a child, causing him to change his nationality and play for his adopted homeland.Muntari, who plays for Al Duhail in the Qatar Stars League, will make his World Cup debut for the Maroons when they host the competition from November to December .
Ironically, Ghana, the country he left out, will compete after defeating Nigeria in the play-offs.
Muntari stated why he chose Qatar in a recent interview: "To tell you the truth, if I had to do it all over again, I would choose Qatar." Because of what they did for me and what they are doing for my people, I would choose Qatar every day.
"I felt I made the correct choice deep inside, so if you ask me to do it again, I will.He can't even play for Ghana's Black Queens, wrote Poco A Poco, while Citizen Jemsino said, "We're Ghana, we're OK without him."
Blvk Bannerman mocked Muntari by claiming that he was unfit to play in Ghana's top flight: "He's not even fit to play in our local league; we hope he appreciates this competition as much as we do," Nana Assiamah added."He wanted to play in this year's World Cup without knowing that Ghana would qualify," Phatela P Mothapo joked, while Mezzaya Dat pondered, "Even if he choose Ghana over Qatar, who would he bench?"
Meanwhile, another fan predicted that Qatar will not advance beyond the World Cup group stage: "Qatar will not make it past the group stage no need for the fuss," commented Sir'turn Frosh.
Another group of supporters defended Muntari, claiming that he had made the correct choice. "It's a good option," said Jamila Sarpong. Nobody is going to try to use juju on him. And when he plays for Qatar, he will earn more money, but Kenyani Godius stated, "I could do the same." Ghana has been afflicted."I support him; we are far from civilization, lack of plan, if you get a chance to be outside the country, use it, die poor in your country, or die rich in Qatar?" wrote Sylvester W Ndinyo. Is it possible that you're thinking aloud? Poverty and patriotism never go together."
Umar M Aleeyu said, "I do applaud his intelligent choice," while Shaibu Dabre commented, "He's been with the Qatar national squad for a long time." Obviously, his choice is unrelated to his concerns over Ghana's chances of qualifying for the World Cup.
"He's making a lot of money, and his decision has provided opportunities for his family."
