Ghanaian born Qatari World-class player Mohammed Muntari explains his reason for opting not to play for the Black Stars but Qatar.
Ghanaian born Qatari international, Mohammed Muntari has revealed why he chose to play for the Qatari national team instead of the country of his birth.
The 28-year-old forward was born in Kumasi to Ghanaian parents but decided to switch nationality for Qatar. He is expected to be in action for the Qatar national team at the World Cup in November and December later this year.
Explaining to the media(TV3) why he chose to switch allegiance for Qatar, Mohammed Muntari said he has never regretted taking the decision and it is not about money.
"Truth be told, I will choose Qatar. I will choose Qatar every single day because of what they did for me and what they are doing for my people. Deep inside I knew o took the right decision so if you ask me to do it again, I will choose Qatar over Ghana. I am not saying anything bad about my beloved country Ghana".
Mohammed Muntari will represent the Arabian country despite being born in Kumasi to Ghanaian parents. Born in Kumasi in 1993, Muntari moved to Qatar at age 19 and switched nationality in 2012 and made his first national team appearance for Qatar in 2014 against Estonia where he performed well and scored a goal. In all competitions, Muntari has made 43 appearances and scored 12 goals.
He attended T.I Ahymaddia in Kumasi and played in most competitions for the school. Real Amass as it is popularly called is known for Sports in the Ashanti Region.
The 28-year-old has played for various clubs including El-jaish, Le-khyiya, Al-Duhaih and Al-Ahly since he moved to Qatar.
Mohammed Muntari will be in action at the World Cup as his country host the world to a football campaign.
