RUNNING OUT OF BREATH WHEN CLIMBING THE STAIRS? SEE WHY

featured img

We all usually run out of breath when using the stairs, but do you know why it happens? Read below

Your Muscles Get Fatigued Very Faster

We all have 2 types of muscle fibers: slow-twitch and fast-twitch. If you are an experienced runner, you can withstand long-distance runs, thanks to the slow-twitch fibers, which tire less easily but do not have much power and strength.

When you get upstairs, you need fast-twitch muscles for these quick explosive movements, but they tire easily and faster.

. Someone Who Does Not Work Out A Lot Might Not Be Out Of Breath As Quick As Someone Who Does

If you trained your endurance by engagement in running, you are using slow-twitch fibers more and they depend on aerobic metabolism. However, when you go upstairs, these little bursts of activity need anaerobic metabolism.

This leads to the production of carbon dioxide and hydrogen, to which endurance athletes are more sensitive than other individuals.

This is why it may be much more easier for someone who does not exercise much to climb stairs than for someone who does resistance training.

Just consider using the stairs more often. Since we do not do that much, it is understandable that our body is not used to doing this kind of physical activity, and it can be more tedious than we expect.

So if we do this more often, we will get used to and train ourselves to be able to do just that.

You can also try exercises like sprints, jumps, or other explosive movements that demand sudden bursts of energy, such as when you are climbing stairs.

Another thing you can consider doing is by training your glutes and legs by doing squats and lunges.

Do you normally use the stairs instead of the elevator? Do you run out of breath? What types of exercises do you do and how often do you do them?
