In terms of Real Madrid as a club, a lot has happened in the last few weeks. The squad is a point away from winning the league, not so far away from being European Champions for the 14th time, and despite all of this, there is still room for improvement and foresight to make this team even more dangerous and unplayable. And, as part of that procedure, the club has already received a "Here We Go" for Antonio Rudiger's signing.
While it is certain that the club would benefit much from the purchase of a fantastic defender from Chelsea, it will be interesting to see how this signing affects the existing team.
David Alaba has been playing as a centre back for Los Blancos since his arrival. We've only seen him in his natural position, which is at left back, on a few occasions. Even though he has put in exceptional performances at that position, he still adapts to it and is not a natural at it.
However, on the rare times when Alaba was allowed to play at left back, he shown what he is capable of with his magical left foot. Sure, he isn't the quickest fullback in the world, but Alaba's ability and mental fortitude come in handy when it comes to making transitions with a teammate such as Vinicious.
Casemiro is without a doubt one of the most dangerous defensive midfielders in the game. The sheer terror he instills in many forwards is debatable. We can't, however, expect him to drop every time and fill in as an extra center back while transitioning.
Even though the defensive duo of Militao and Alaba has been fantastic so far this season, Casemiro has quite a few times had to stretch himself a little too thin at times. The arrival of Antonio Rudiger will provide much-needed relief for the Brazilian midfielder.
Because Rudiger is one of the fastest and strongest defenders in the league, he will undoubtedly relieve Casemiro of a significant amount of pressure. Furthermore, Alaba's move to the LB position will help provide a significant defensive boost for the defense, and he may even provide some much-needed rest to Casemiro, as he can also play as a defensive midfielder. As a result, it all sums up to work out for Casemiro.
We've watched David Alaba and Militao's partnership flourish throughout La Liga and the UEFA Champions League this season. While Alaba is the brains behind Real Madrid's defense, Militao is the muscle. The young Brazilian discovered in Alaba the opposing attributes that enabled him to shine brightest.
Militao's adjustment to his new defensive partner, on the other hand, will be fascinating to see. Knowing the Brazilian's talent, it won't be surprising if he puts in world-class performances right away, and Rudiger, like Alaba, fully supports Militao's attributes.
Miltao and Rudiger are both defenders who enjoy being involved in the setup as well as venturing forward in attack, so it will be interesting to watch how they handle themselves when given the opportunity to get up the pitch.
Toni Kroos doing his magic and dictating the midfield like a boss is something that every single Real Madrid supporter dreams of seeing. It's a piece of beauty every time Kroos has the chance to operate on his own. Toni Kroos, on the other hand, has been forced out of his natural role as a game-controlling midfielder at times this season. Because every time Casemiro has been out of the team due to suspension or injury, Kroos has had to go in as a CDM to cover for him.
Now that Kroos is a CDM, he has to chase around players to regain possession of the ball and the game. However, with the addition of a defender like Rudiger, who is physically imposing, quick, and, most importantly, excellent at moving the ball up the pitch, the team's chances of winning the game have improved significantly. Kroos will be able to do what he does best, which is control the game, as a result of this.
And, with Rudiger joining Militao in the middle of defense, Alaba may also serve as a backup for Casemiro, as we know he enjoys doing so.
