According to sources in France, Liverpool has made "contacts" about a prospective transfer for Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

The 22-year-performances old's in Ligue 1 have earned him a solid reputation across Europe. Tchouameni, a defensive midfielder, joined Monaco from Bordeaux in January 2020 and has since established himself as a vital member of the France squad.

The teenage midfielder has been linked with a move away in the build-up to the summer transfer window, with Liverpool among the clubs rumored to be interested. However, rumors in France claim that the Reds have taken a step forward in their pursuit of Tchouameni.

According to Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato, Liverpool and the player's representatives have already met about a possible transfer. Tchouameni is considered to be one of Jurgen Klopp's top priorities for the summer transfer window in order to strengthen the club's midfield.

Monaco's greatest asset is thought to be worth "far above" £42 million, with Tchouameni's contract slated to expire in 2024. Liverpool is expected to face a great competition for the France international from both Real Madrid and PSG.

Real Madrid was "ready to finalise" a deal for Tchouameni, according to the source, and the Spanish giants are hopeful that he can build a successful relationship with another French talent Eduardo Camavinga. The transfer crisis is now said to be "far from over," with Liverpool able to match Real Madrid's goals while outbidding the club financially.

While Liverpool has a number of center-midfield options, the 22-year-old is considered as a younger alternative to both Jordan Henderson and James Milner, according to Foot Mercato. Liverpool fans will be hoping that any potential deal for Tchouameni goes as well as Fabinho's stay on Merseyside.

Tchouameni gave no indication that he was seeking elsewhere when he spoke to Monaco's official club website earlier this month. "AS Monaco is a huge French club with a fascinating history! "Some of the best players in the world have performed here," he remarked.

"I did not hesitate for a second to come here to the Principality when I heard of the Club's interest in me while I was in Bordeaux." With excellent facilities and a top project for young players, I believed it might help me improve. As a result, I am overjoyed to be a member of such a prestigious organization today."
