Following the announcement of results in the current constituency elections in the Upper East Region, a delegate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) died.

The Upper East Regional Chairman of the party, Anthony Anamoo, confirmed the event to JoyNews' Paa Kwesi Schandorf on JoyNews Prime on Saturday, saying that the deceased's name is Paul Amalba Azika and that he was the polling station chairman of Azika class village centre.

According to him, the late Paul Amalba was a part of Awudu Asonga's campaign team when he ran for the position of NPP Chairman for the seat.

He explained that when the votes closed, the counting began in earnest, beginning with the youth organiser.  When the ballots for the position of constituency chairman were counted, it was discovered that the deceased's favoured candidate had lost by two votes, despite a recount.

Paul Amalba collapsed as a result of this, according to Anthony Namoo, and was transported to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The deceased is left by a wife and two children, according to the NPP's Upper East Regional Chairman.  He added that he and other party officials paid a visit to the bereaved family to express their condolences and express their grief over the death of the delegate, whom he described as "very supportive of the party, and somebody who, for all intents and purposes, had the belief that Awudu would be the best constituency chairman for the constituency, and so he invested a lot of emotions, energy, and what have you."

Anthony Namoo speculated that Paul died as a result of the startling results and the fact that he had been campaigning all night and had not gotten enough rest.

He remarked, "The direct cause that we laypeople can say is that his candidate did not win."

In response to allegations that a court had issued an injunction on the region's elections, Mr. Anthony Namoo clarified that the order was only issued for one seat, the Chiana Paga constituency.

In his comments, he stated that the vetting committee had rejected one of the candidates for the role of constituency chairman in that constituency, following which he went to court for an ex-parte interlocutory injunction.

According to Mr. Namoo, the qualified candidate was then meant to be sworn in based on the disqualification, as per the party's constitution.

However, he stated that this did not occur as a result of the injunction, which was served at 2 p.m. in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, some voters in the Osu Korley Klottey seat have expressed their dissatisfaction with the internal elections to JoyNews.

They told Samuel Mburah of JoyNews that the procedure had been riddled with difficulties, including the disappearance of certain names from the voter register.
