Real Madrid are reportedly planning a summer move to recruit Cristiano Ronaldo, according to a story in The Mirror via ESPN.Ronaldo joined Real Madrid for a then-world-record deal of £80 million in 2009, and he could return to the Spanish club this summer.

Despite his age, Ronaldo has continued to excel this season, scoring 23 goals in 35 appearances, which hasn't gone unnoticed by the Real Madrid hierarchy.

Real Madrid officials have taken notice of Ronaldo and are now working to arrange a comeback to La Liga for him. With Manchester United unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next season, Ronaldo may be tempted to depart if Real Madrid make a move for him.

When Ronaldo returned to Manchester United last summer, he signed a two-year contract with the club.

Dimitar Berbatov, a former Manchester United striker, has stated that he wants Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at the club, but that he will understand if the Portuguese international moves this summer.

"I want Ronaldo to stay, but I understand if he leaves," Berbatov told Betfair. At his age, scoring so many Premier League goals in a season is a remarkable achievement. He's doing exactly what he should be doing, which is scoring goals. He has one more year at United, which I believe is a positive thing, and it is now up to him to decide whether to stay or depart. I'd like to see him stay and continue scoring while also assisting the other players.

"Of course, everything is contingent on the new manager and what Ronaldo desires." He is a football legend, and when you are someone like him, your opinion matters. You can't really blame him if he decides to go. It's difficult to comprehend when you're used to playing Champions League football every year of your career and then you don't.

"He'll want to play for as long as he can and prove that anything is possible." He has shown that he can still play in the Premier League at 37 years old, he enjoys proving people wrong, and I'm confident that he will want to do so for a few more years.

"It will be a sad day for football when he retires since he is one of the true greats." For everyone, that day will come.
