FIFA FINALLY FINE NIGERIA FOR THE MISCONDUCT AT WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS IN ABUJA

World football body,FIFA on Monday 2nd May 2022 fined Nigeria CHF150,000 (¢1,150,655.62) that is a little above 11.5 billion old Ghana cedis following violence that occurred at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on March 29 this year, after the country’s failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after playing a draw game with a penalty as their equaliser between them and their neighbouring Rivals The Black Stars of Ghana.

 

As a result of this, FIFA ordered Nigeria  to play their next international match behind closed doors.This means they will be playing their next international match without supporters or football fans.However there is a room for appeal according to FIFA.

 

After the final whistle was blown, Hundreds of fans encroached the pitch, destroying the technical area and pelting the VIP section of the stadium after Nigeria played out a 1-1 draw against Ghana, which saw the Super Eagles crash out of their final playoffs for the 2022 World Cup on the away goal rule.

 

FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee, in their summary jurisdiction over incidents that occurred during the World Cup qualifiers, delivered the sanctions in a letter updated on April 28 this year.

 

According to FIFA, Nigeria’s fines were a result of failure to implement “Order and security at matches that is,failure to implement existing safety rules and failure to ensure that law and order are maintained in the stadium, invasion of the field of play and throwing of objects which violates article 16 of FIFA Disciplinary Committee .

 

A total of 49 countries were either fined or warned by FIFA for misconduct during the playoffs of this year,world cup qualifiers. The world cup is scheduled to takeoff in Qatar  from 21 November 2022 to 18 December 2022 making it the 22nd running of the FIFA World cup competition.And also the first to happen in Arab Gulf.
