Mr. Paul Mavima, Minister for Public Service and Social Welfare on 29th April, 2022 told NewsDay that changes on teachers packages can not be changed each time school resumes from Vacation and so therefore teachers should have patience as government addressed their grievances. He said teachers getting increment will not be done anytime soon after government said it can not be raise Teacher's salaries any time school resumes.
Second quarter almost approaching and we need them to exercise patient and go to the table for negotiation process. Increment of salary just changed and can not be change again as soon as school resumes from break.
If there is any need for a review, it will determined during the negotiation table. There was s special package for teachers which include $20,000 per child school fees package which support at least three (3) children in the government institution or school. Mr. Maxima added that the Government will also look out for a construction of decent housing accommodation for teachers of the public institutions.
He said, this will be institutional housing for teachers and so they don't have to be worrying themselves and they will surely have a good and decent housing. Again he said they are undertaking that aggressive programme to make sure provision of good and decent housing for teachers comes on.
Schools are therefore scheduled to resumes from Vacation for the second term on 3rd May, 2022 but teachers representatives have threatened not to go back or report for duty all by saying they are financially broke. Therefore teachers want the Government to come back again to their pre October, 2018 salary structure of US$540 and saying the UD$175 they are currently receiving is not enough and sustainable.
