Deputy President Mahamudu Bawumia, at the Eid-ul Fitr celebrations, praised the mutual respect, religious tolerance, and understanding that exists between Muslims and Christians across the country.
He said such religious tolerance and harmony had placed Ghana at the forefront of the Global Peace Index, ranked first in West Africa and second in Africa as the most peaceful country in the world.
“In some places, religious groups are close-knit and threaten the peace of their communities.
“Here in Ghana, we are blessed with tolerance and progressive religious leadership and groups that play a key role in the development of the country.
"Let us continue to strengthen our ties no matter who we are religiously so that we can continue to have a positive impact on our communities and the nation," said Dr. Bawumia at the Eid prayer in Black Star Square in Accra, ending this month-long Ramadan fast.
Eid prayers were held in large numbers for the first time in two years following the government's restriction on COVID-19.
The pilgrims dressed in their white robes prayed for mercy and mercy to Allah throughout the Holy Ramadan to ensure a successful fast.
The Deputy President commended the contributions of religious organizations, especially Christian and Muslim groups in their efforts to develop the country in the areas of education and health infrastructure.
He urged them to get involved in other sectors such as agriculture and smallholder production to help create jobs for the youth of the plains and ensure sustainable development.
Dr. Bawumia has cited various government policies and interventions to alleviate the plight of the people of Ghana, especially during the heat of the COVID-19 epidemic.
He mentioned the issue of free water and electricity supply as well as food for the poor in the community.
“Government is sensitive to the plight of the people and does not turn its back on them in times of crisis.
“We have shown you during the banking crisis and paid about 25 billion Ghanaian cedis to save 4.5 million Depositors.
"We have also shown you the moment of the COVID-19 violence through the free supply of water, electricity and supported businesses, households, traders, and entrepreneurs," said the Deputy President.
He said the government was implementing various development programs in the education sector such as school blocks, dormitories, ICT centers, tightening high school policy, financing BECE and WASSCE, Planting for Food and Jobs student exams, and more. infrastructure such as roads, bridges, water pipes, and intersections, adds Dr. Bawumia.
He said the Government's commitment to human health needs was emphasized through the payment of applications by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the employment of thousands of health workers, and the implementation of Agenda 111.
Regarding support for Muslim communities, the Deputy President revealed that about 200 infrastructure projects have been completed including roads, Astro-turf, bridges, school roadblocks, and drainage systems while 40 Zongo students received scholarships to study medicine in Cuba.
On the other hand, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, in a message read in his name by Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaib, his spokesman, commended Muslims for a successful Ramadan and urged them to continue to show Islamic qualities of compassion, compassion, tolerance, care, forgiveness, and love. and another guard.
The Great Imam thanked the government for allowing Muslims and Christians to hold prayer times at Jubilee House, the seat of government, during Ramadan.
He believes that mutual respect and religious tolerance between Muslims and Christians have strengthened religious harmony and peace in the country and urged them to continue living in peace.
He praised government intervention and community development programs, especially in Zongo and in inner cities such as roads, school areas, ICT centers, the recruitment of Arab teachers to teach in Islamic schools, and programs to build Zongo high schools across the country.

The Chief Imam has instructed Muslim youth to be vigilant during the celebration and to refrain from reckless riding on the road which could endanger the lives of other road users.
