Following Manchester City's recent win against Leeds, manager Pep Guardiola discussed the places in which Phil Foden can play for the Etihad side, as well as his future as a central midfielder.
Phil Foden's performance as a right-sided central midfielder in Manchester City's recent 4-0 victory over Leeds United drew the eye.
Despite having been a regular in the front three since joining the club, the England international produced a Man of the Match performance in his natural midfield role, setting up Rodri and Gabriel Jesus for two of Manchester City's four goals on the day.
Manager Pep Guardiola discussed the many locations in which Phil Foden can play after the 21-year-old impressed in the center of the park on Saturday evening.
He can play in all five positions up front: winger on both flanks, striker in the centre, and as attacking midfielder in the pockets."
"In the academy, when I first saw him at 16-17 years old when I arrived here, he played in a position like Kevin (De Bruyne) and wow, he performed really well but all the moves are so, so quick," the Catalan coach continued.
"I believe that in time, he will be more capable of playing in central positions; he still has all of the actions and the fast pace, so perhaps the wide positions suit him more now," he said, according to Manchester City's official website.
"It's excellent because he's so aggressive and we need it," Guardiola continued, "but sometimes he needs a little bit, but that's a question of time." It's not a problem for him; it's simply a matter of time."
For the kid to solidify his spot in the side as a central midfielder in 2020, Guardiola also stressed the need of playing in 'various rhythms' and'slowing down.'
While Foden's dazzling performance against Leeds suggests he is ready to play in the middle of the field, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's relentless pursuit of perfection is what has allowed the prodigy to progress so quickly.
