The GRA has been requested to record all exchanges on the E-Levy

 

The Supreme Court has requested the Ghana Revenue Authority to record all exchanges on the E-demand since its execution on May 1 forthcoming the assurance of a case brought before it on whether the execution of the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) is lawful.

 

This occurred during a consultation on a directive case brought under the watchful eye of the court by three National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament on the E-Levy.

 

The request was given by Nene Amegatcher, one of the judges of the Supreme Court, following their consistent excusal of the order application brought by the MPs.

 

The three MPs are the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu; Mahama Ayariga, the MP for Bawku Central; and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the MP for North Tongu.

 

The MPs were requesting that the Apex Court limits the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) from executing the E-Levy until the last assurance of their suit testing the lawfulness of its section by Parliament.

 

Considerable case

 

In March 2022, the Minority Caucus in Parliament documented a suit to challenge the entry of the dubious Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) at the Supreme Court.

 

Haruna Iddrisu showed that the entry was unlawful, as Parliament didn't have the expected numbers to pursue a choice on the E-Levy.

 

"The Majority of under 137 leading business just continued on unlawful and illegal business. Parliament didn't have the numbers to take any choice that ought to be restricting on Parliament and Ghanaians."

 

"I think they need to come back again on E-demand on the grounds that starting today, I don't think they had the numbers to say that the E-demand has been passed. We will scrutinize this choice in [the Supreme] court based on the previous decision and based on the way that they said we can't pursue a choice with 137 [members], yet they can take with 137," he told the media at a question and answer session.

 

This was after the Minority boycotted the thought of the E-Levy at the second and third understanding stages.

 

The bill was anyway passed by the Majority gathering in Parliament.
