According to Daily Star columnist Paul Brown, Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana is the type of defender Chelsea prefers.

Fofana, Pau Torres, and Max Kilman are three centre-backs who have been linked with the Blues recently, and Brown believes Fofana is the most exciting of the three.

Chelsea are apparently interested in a number of central defenders, including Fofana, as Antonio Rudiger departs Stamford Bridge at the conclusion of the season.

Despite signing a contract deal until 2027 at the King Power, the 21-year-old, who was recently described as "outstanding" by Brendan Rodgers, is one centre-back on the west London club's radar, according to the Evening Standard. In other news, Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea has dispatched scouts to watch Villarreal's Torres, while talkSPORT revealed in February that Wolves' Kilman is also a target.

In addition to Rudiger, Thomas Tuchel appears to be on the verge of losing Andreas Christensen, who will be a free agent this summer, implying that the European champions would make numerous defensive signings after their takeover is completed. While Brown believes Fofana, Torres, and Kilman would all fit into Tuchel's system, the Daily Star writer is particularly excited about the possibility of Chelsea signing the Leicester player.

"They would probably all fit the system in different ways," Brown told GIVEMESPORT. Fofana is the most intriguing to me since he certainly has a lot of talent, is quick, and is extremely comfortable on the ball, which Chelsea will no doubt appreciate. It will be challenging, and that is before you consider the club's current circumstances following the punishment of owner Roman Abramovich.

Manchester United were said to be interested in signing Fofana last year, with Foot Mercato (via Sport Witness) reporting that Leicester were prepared to demand £80 million for the defender - the same fee they received for Harry Maguire when he moved to Old Trafford.

Is Chelsea going to foot the bill?

Maybe under Abramovich, but how much Todd Boehly and his consortium, who are in the driver's seat to buy the Blues, are ready to spend on players is anyone's guess. And, of course, since United's interest, Fofana has gone on to negotiate a new contract, so the valuation may easily have climbed.

Finally, Torres and Kilman, who are said to have a €60 million (£50 million) release clause, are likely to be easier to sign this summer.
