The Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) is appealing to President Nana Akufo-Addo to appoint a council of prominent Ghanaians to lead efforts to tighten its grip on neighborly governance.
The President reiterated his responsibility to ensure that MMDCEs are elected on a systematic basis.
IDG is on the side of the President's move but acknowledges that it will explode if it does not come close.
In a meeting with Citi News, IDEG Executive Director, Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey, has indicated that the independent board can finalize the required agreement in this regard.
"I think the President should appoint prominent Ghanaians to address this issue. We are in talks with people who have gone to different countries to resolve the crisis. We should not make this look like any other party considering this is based on the 2024 political decision.
"The President must speak. I hope that we see this constitution flexible for four years and that another framework is put in place, with the possibility of reaching a political agreement."
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said she has not relinquished her duty to amend Section 55 (3) of the 1992 constitution to clarify the process of appointing senior City, Municipal, and Provincial (MMDCEs) to a strong position.
He goes on to say that the repeal of a law banning religious organizations from supporting dissidents at the neighborhood level will widen the divisions of the people and the majority rule the government in the country.
In 2019, the Akufo-Addo movement began democratically elected to the local government with a proposal to amend Article 243 (1) and amendments to Article 55 (3) of the Constitution, to give it the power to think. parties to participate in neighbor-level decisions.
In any case, the plan came to a standstill following a lack of bilateral funding to approve Section 55 (3) amendments, forcing the President to pass the amendments.
Although the Constitution of 1992, in Article 55 (3), provides for the consolidation of decisions of a party, it avoids the appointment of the City, Municipal, and Provincial Executive.
Section 55 (3) states "Subject to the provisions of this Article, a party may be allowed to take an interest in the development of the political will of the people, to disseminate information on political ideas, social and financial projects of the public, and to support race opportunities in any open office other than District Assemblies or government units."
Currently, the President appoints all MMDCEs to ensure their rallies.
However, he argued that the turnout in the fourth republic was 72%; one of the world's largest decision-making and non-sectarian government decisions with about 30%.
