The government's introduction of Akufo-Addo's digital delivery of government services as part of the fight against corruption is beginning to bear fruit, with more and more interventions planned to fight it even harder, said Deputy President Mahamudu Bawumia.

The Deputy President, who was addressing the 2022 Annual Conference of the Internal Audit Institute (Ghana) in Accra on Thursday, May 5, 2022, emphasized that the government is "very committed" to the fight against corruption, and will ensure that the government is "committed" to fighting corruption. . further digital integration into the functioning of state institutions to ensure transparency.

“Building strong institutions means putting in place appropriate systems and procedures that ensure transparency and efficiency. In this regard, while corruption may always be an incurable disease, transparency will be its goal of reducing the rate of spread. As the saying goes, our biggest disease is corruption and the goal is to make things clear. Corrupt people hate to do things openly, ”he said.

Dr. Bawumia explained that in his efforts to tackle corruption and bribery and corruption since 2017 Government has ensured the spread of technology and digital with a twofold goal of ensuring an easy, accessible, and anti-corruption strategy.

“I like to focus on where we are as a country in our digital system. We have made significant progress in building the digital infrastructure that serves as the foundation for our digital economy as part of the paradigm shift in our economic transformation.

“We are looking at the construction of this digital infrastructure on key individual identification pillars using the Ghana Card; address and architecture plans using GhanaPostGPS; resolving small banks and bringing investment to more people through strong mobile money and banking and digital payment platforms, and the integration of Government Information and the digital delivery of public services through the Ghana.gov platform. ”

Citing major developments in the revenue and performance of government institutions that have embraced digital spending, Dr. Bawumia said it would "be more visible" to "shine in the darkness of corruption."

"Now, we are seeing the effects of these programs which include the effective delivery of public services by all ministers, departments, and agencies on the Ghana.gov website, the fight against corruption by removing middle people and" ghost names "in many jobs, bringing more Ghanaians into the legal profession. and to promote the collection of internal revenue, among other things.

“If you take the Passport Office as an example, in 2017 there were about 16,000 applications for Ghs1m passports. But with the advent of digital installation, there have been more than 498,000 online applications by 2021, generating more than Ghs56m. The same thing happens with DVLA, ports, and other facilities.

“Recently, as a result of the launch of e-tickets, we have recorded the highest amount of money we earn in a football match in Ghana. We will continue to shine a light on every aspect of world life. ”

The Deputy President urged Internal Auditors to play their part in the fight against corruption, given their important role in the governance system in public and private institutions.

“As internal auditors in the digital economy, your ability to provide independent assurance that risk management, public administration, and internal control systems are effective depends on your acceptance and use of digital technology. Those responsible for governance must embrace digital to survive and grow.

“In line with the work of the Internal Audit Center, the internal audit function should be well-positioned to assist organizations in achieving their objectives by providing insight and foresight. This must be achieved through a systematic review and improvement of risk management, control, and management. ”

President of the Institute of Internal Audit, Ms. Harriet Karikari, urged the institutions to invest in further training of their internal audit staff to improve their efficiency and effectiveness in anticipating, diagnosing and providing solutions to any challenges.
