Some Cape Town coastal fishermen have criticized the political practice of premix fuel that undermined the fishing industry.
According to them, shortages, mismanagement and a sharp decline in the catch over the years have exacerbated the problem in fishing communities.
"At the moment there is a shortage, there is little to come, there is a lot of politics, the culture of politics is all out of hand, we need equal treatment because it is not free"
Mr. Yaw Tenkorang, a fisherman from Abrofompoano on the Cape Coast, said this in an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday.
He said it was unfortunate that the fishermen could not go on a fishing trip in preparation for the July closure due to a shortage of petrol at sea.
Mr. Suleiman Tahiru, the boat owner, noted that premix diversion and mismanagement of premix fuel supply seemed to be on the rise.
Adding to her voice, Nana Kweigyah, President of the Canoe and Fishing Gear Owners Association of Ghana (CAFGOAG) is politically concerned about the sale of petrol, noting that it is still the cause of premix fuel mismanagement.
He said the availability of fuel and related issues is a major threat to the successful launch of the closed 2022 fishing season.
"We are looking forward to the planned planning for the distribution and sale of premix fuel by the Department of Fisheries and Marine Development to bring relief"
He said the availability of fuel and related issues is a major threat to the successful launch of the closed 2022 fishing season, sure.
