The Ghana Statistical Service Board is charged with leading the provision of quality data

Dr. John Kumah, Deputy Minister of Finance, has charged the Statistics Board of Ghana (GSS) to continue to provide leadership in providing high-quality development statistics for the country.
The Deputy Minister said the country relied heavily on the Department of Labor to produce accurate and timely information to report on the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2063 African Union Agenda.
Dr. Kumah was speaking in Accra at the launch of a seven-member GSS board that will oversee the Department's affairs in producing quality information as outlined in the Integrated Economic and Social Development Policy.
The appointment is by Section 5 (2) of the Statistical Services Act, 2019: Act 1003 authorizing the President of the Republic, in consultation with the Council of State, to appoint a board of directors for the Service.
"We also believe that your tenure will bring significant progress in the field of data production for the betterment of the country."
He commended the Department for participating in the Annual Household Income and Expenditure Survey to provide the country with quarterly labor data, Quarterly Multidimensional Poverty and Risk.
He said that would provide feedback to policy, academics, and research on whether national programs and policies have a positive impact on the people.
"As a government, we need to know the impact of various government policies and we will support the Service to re-use the tool to fulfill its core function of providing quality, accurate, accurate, and timely statistics," he said.
Board members will, among other things, work to increase the establishment of the Unit by ensuring that experienced senior officials take the lead in producing statistics, directing the preparation of the appropriate Service plan, and overseeing all censuses and surveys conducted. for the West African Statistical Reconciliation and Development Project for the next three years.
He said the government, through the World Bank, had provided Statistical Service $ 150 million to further the census and to consolidate and strengthen data collection systems in Ghana and seven West African countries.
He called on the Service to ensure the efficient use of the remaining resources as it considers other plans to strengthen the Department financially.
Dr. Grace Bediako, Chairperson of the GSS board, thanked the Government for the trust that has fallen on them and pledged to work together to fulfill their mandate.
He promised to support the Service to provide quality data for decision-making and promised to work to elevate the institution.
Other board members include Professor Samuel Anim, Government Statistician, Ms. Hannah Ashiokai Akrong, Director of Labor, Vodafone Ghana, Dr. Evans Aggrey Darko, Executive Director, Department of Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Josephine Dzahene-Quaishie, Director, Confucius Institute, Legon, and Mr. Philip Abradu-Otoo, Director of Research, Bank of Ghana.
