Some of the leading WASSCE rehabilitation schools in Ghana
Rehabilitation schools are a type of compensatory school to help students acquire the skills expected in certain academic subjects.
Ghana has many repair schools spread across the country.
These repair schools are used to address gaps in many major subjects.
Over the years, statistics have shown that the majority of high school graduates do not meet the minimum entry requirements required for admission to various universities in Ghana.
Rehabilitation schools have come into the picture as efforts to help resolve this unfortunate situation.
They help prepare students to take the WASSCE and BECE exams again in anticipation of better marks.
Teaching in many rehabilitation schools does not take place in a normal classroom but in a different context.
Unlike special education designed specifically for students with special needs, self-improvement classes can be built for any student, with or without special needs.
WHO SHOULD GO TO REPAIR SCHOOL?
Rehabilitation schools are for students with middle or high intellectual ability but not doing well in school.
Often, preparatory students do not struggle because of their intellectual abilities but rather because they struggle with a single subject area such as reading, writing, or math.
Corrective programs are designed to help give students the personal attention they need to build their skills and confidence so that they can live up to their potential.
Corrective programs that give students individual attention are much needed.
Many students today find it difficult to sit still and concentrate in the classroom because the presentation of traditional expressions does not capture the attention of all reading groups.
Below are examples of high maintenance schools in Ghana.

REMEDIAL SCHOOL - METHODIST UNIVERSITY COLLEGE GHANA
The Wesleyan Mission Society arrived in Ghana in 1835. Since then, the Methodist Church has been involved in the provision and development of quality education at elementary, tertiary, and teacher training levels.
The role of the Churches, including the Methodist Church, in providing basic education, secondary education, and teachers declined in 1961 under the auspices of the educational reform movement at that time.
The government decided to take responsibility for the management of mechanical schools and training colleges.
It also established several high schools and training colleges.
Despite the existence of these institutions, many concerns have been raised about the lack of tertiary institutions to cater to qualified people to have the opportunity to study at tertiary institutions.
The Methodist Church in Ghana was confident that with its unique history and expertise in providing education at the basic, tertiary, and teacher levels, it could contribute to solving education delivery problems at all levels.
Methodist University College Ghana (MUCG) was accredited by the National Accreditation Board in August 2000. Its application for cooperation with the University of Ghana was approved in October 2002.
MUCG also has a program to prepare students who want to improve their grades.
