Mohamed Salah is out for revenge ahead of Liverpool vs Real Madrid in the Champions League.
In the 2018 final, Salah was forced off in the first half after Sergio Ramos wrestled him to the ground.
The Egyptian had enjoyed an incredible campaign, scoring 44 goals in all competitions but lasted just half an hour before Ramos forced his shoulder injury. Salah left the pitch in tears.
We all know what happened that night in Kiev as Real Madrid won the competition for a third consecutive year.
And Salah has made no secret he wants revenge on Real Madrid – if not Ramos.
After Liverpool overcame Villarreal in their semi-final, Salah was asked who he’d prefer to face in the final – Real Madrid or Manchester City.
He didn’t hesitate.
“I want to play Madrid, I have to be honest. City is a really tough team, we played against them a few times this season. I think personally, I would prefer Madrid.
“We lost in the final to them so I want to play against them and hopefully win it.”
When Real dramatically beat City, Salah tweeted: “We have a score to settle”.And on Thursday night after picking up the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award, Salah declared revenge.
“Yeah. It’s revenge time. They beat us in the final last time. It was a very sad day for all of us, so yeah.“I said I wanted to play them in the final. I’m sure it’s going to be a tough game. They beat a lot of good teams but I’m excited. The team is excited.”Of course, Ramos is no longer a Real Madrid player having moved to Paris Saint-Germain but it’s clear Salah’s feud goes far beyond the Spaniard.
While they may not come face-to-face on May 28 in Paris, Salah and Ramos did meet just months after their clash in Kiev. It came at the UEFA award ceremony as the Real Madrid legend picked up the Defender of the Year accolade. As fate would have it, Salah was sitting directly in front of Ramos and, after picking up his award, Ramos had to walk past the Liverpool man to get to his seat. When doing so, he reached out and touched Salah’s shoulder – the same shoulder he injured in the final.
Salah’s reaction? He didn’t move a muscle.
While the likes of Luka Modric and Keylor Navas congratulated Ramos on winning the award, Salah didn’t even acknowledge Ramos.
So awkward.
Salah is now out for revenge.
