The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Elections Committee has declared that regional and national elections would be held simultaneously on Friday, June 24, 2022, at all authorized voting stations across the country.

The GJA stated in a statement on Thursday that the final date for the elections was determined after the GJA Elections Adjudication Committee successfully resolved petitions.

"National and regional elections are expected to take place on Friday, June 24, 2022, with results announced on the same day," according to GJA.

According to the Associated Press, the election process will begin on Monday, May 9, 2022, with the release of the GJA register in national dailies.  "A copy of this list will be distributed to all Regional Branches, Chapters, and news organizations at least thirty days before the election."

"This will be followed by a meeting with officials from Ghana's Electoral Commission to discuss the whole election and electoral processes," according to the statement.

Meanwhile, a screening team has been established to begin the process of vetting candidates.

Col. M'bawine Atintande (rtd) chairs the panel, with Osei Kwadwo Adow Esq as a member, Vicky Wireko-Andoh as a member, Doris Adabasu Kuwornu as a member, Dr. Ebo Afful as a member, and Peter Martey Agbeko as the secretary.

"In the interim, the Election Committee's Vetting of Candidates Panel has began its formative work and will draft Rules of Procedure for the activity." The Association stated, "This will be published shortly."

On June 24, the GJA will hold regional and national elections.

In the following days, the media will publish a list of polling stations as well as a complete schedule of events.

The Election Committee is also working on establishing a platform to help candidates with their campaigning.

The week following the elections, GJA will announce victorious candidates to Association members.

"On Thursday, June 30, 2022, the National and Regional Executives will be sworn in."
