PSG winger Angel Di Maria is reportedly being pursued by Juventus in the summer transfer window.
According to Calciomercato.com, Massimiliano Allegri wants to bolster his forward line. Furthermore, Federico Chiesa is recovering from a long-term injury, and Di Maria might fill in for him temporarily. However, the Italian club may still have financial difficulties, as they are apparently unwilling to pay more than €4-5 million in net salary every year.
Juventus is also interested in signing the winger on a one-year deal with an option for a second year. However, in order for the potential trade to go through, Di Maria must be happy with the Bianconeri's intentions.
Di Maria, 34, is PSG's all-time leading assist provider with 117 assists and has 91 goals in 292 appearances in all competitions.
Angel di Maria and PSG have had a dismal season.
Despite winning Ligue 1 by a large margin, PSG's season has been a tremendous disappointment. Last summer's signings of Lionel Messi and other talents were anticipated to help the club fight for the Champions League crown. Angel Di Maria would have been ecstatic to play beside his compatriot Lionel Messi.
Things, however, have not gone as planned. Di Maria has been plagued by injuries in recent months and has struggled to maintain his starting berth. This season, he has made 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and assisting on seven occasions.
In the 3-1 Champions League Round of 16 loss to Real Madrid, the Argentine played only 10 minutes. Since then, he has only made one appearance for the Parisian club.
With PSG's talent and manager, anything less than a title challenge was always going to be considered a failure. Kylian Mbappe is expected to leave this summer, according to Marca. As a result, it'll be fascinating to see if the Parisians can come up with a suitable alternative for their talisman.
Regardless, the previous season will undoubtedly be remembered as a great squandered opportunity.
