The 41-year-old sparked outrage on social media after celebrating Los Blancos' Champions League semi-final victory over the Citizens.

After Cameroon icon Samuel Eto'o openly celebrated Real Madrid's Champions League triumph against Manchester City on Wednesday, fans across Africa were divided.

Los Blancos came from behind to win the semi-final 6-5 on aggregate at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and go to the final, where they will meet Liverpool, who had eliminated Villarreal. On May 28, the final will be held at the Stade de France in Paris. The 41-year-old former Cameroon international sparked outrage on social media after posting a photo of Real Madrid players celebrating their win over Manchester City alongside a photo of himself from his time with Los Blancos.

"Bravo Real Madrid, where it all began for me, on their impressive victory last night," Eto'o captioned the photo.

Despite the fact that his career began at Real Madrid when he entered the youth program in 1997, his statements have divided fans, as he also played for Madrid rivals Barcelona. Eto'o earned his name at Barcelona under Pep Guardiola, the current Manchester City coach, and even won the Champions League with them in 2009.After signing a five-year contract with Inter Milan in July 2009, Eto'o was moved out.

On the GOAL Africa Facebook page, fans replied to his Tweet as follows.

Former Chelsea player Ntanzi Manduleli Mhambi believes Guardiola was only joyful because he had lost. "He's just delighted Pep [Guardiola] got knocked out," Niba Klif remarked, "and they won't be happy with him anymore."

Rx Keltinho believes Eto'o's letter was meant towards Guardiola since he annoyed him at Barcelona: "This is for Pep... While Martin Chongu wrote: "Eto'o wants to get back at Pep," he actually irritated Eto'o at Barcelona when Eto'o was experiencing his best times in his career.Mubarak Muhd Musa shared Chongu's comments, writing: "He's delivering a positive message to Pep Guardiola," and Nwigway Uche wrote: "Just taking things easy with Pep."

Others have accused Guardiola of having a strained relationship with African players, writing, "Guardiola has done wrong to many African players," while Elvis Kobby A Boateng stated, "Pep mistreated Eto'o and Yaya [Toure]." Pep despises players from Sub-Saharan Africa."

"What was Eto'o's motivation for doing this?" It's because Guardiola dislikes African footballers at Barcelona like Yaya Toure and Eto'o," Ismer'eel Aboubakar Hassan explained, while Louis Ankah wrote: "He [Eto'o] has never been a favorite of Guardiola." Pep is now reaping the benefits of his treatment of African players at Barcelona.Mqoma Ka Mbathane, on the other hand, believes Eto'o was celebrating defeat against a player who had previously frustrated him: "But of course, a sweet defeat to the man, who frustrated him at some point in his career," while Edu Brazil Okafor wrote: "Yeah... Pep pushed him out of Barcelona, so whatever that agonizes Pep gives him joy."

Meanwhile, Ramadan Ramisky Rm has stated that he does not see anything wrong with what Eto'o wrote: "I don't see anything wrong with someone congratulating a team on winning; I'm not sure why the media is portraying him as the black sheep; all I know is that Eto'o can never be a Madridista but will always be a Barcelona legend."

"Everyone likes to associate," Ernest Rolex said.
