Taking cash for bail is debasement - Justice of Court of Appeal

 

Equity Sir Dennis Adjei, Justice of the Court of Appeal, says taking cash prior to allowing bail is debasement and should be deterred.

 

He pushed bail was free and that anybody observed taking cash prior to executing bail would be arraigned.

 

Both the provider and taker would be arraigned.

 

Equity Adjei was tending to the Judicial Press Corps at a day's preparation together coordinated by the Judicial Service of Ghana, Perfector of Sentiments (POS) Foundation and Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA).

 

It was under the topic: "Figuring out the law enforcement arrangement of Ghana for viable media reportage."

 

He said any local official discovered participating in degenerate practices could be condemned to between 12 to 25 years whenever viewed as blamable.

 

The Appeal Court Justice said debasement was at this point not a wrongdoing and advised against it.

 

He said bail ought not be utilized as discipline when the charged individual had not been seen as blameworthy, adding that each offense was presently bailable given there were "individuals of substance" to remain as guarantees and could demonstrate that the denounced would seem to stand preliminary.

Mr Jonathan Osei Owusu, Executive Director of POS, approached the members to advocate the trustworthiness of the Court after the preparation.
