GHANAIAN STUDENTS IN UKRAINE WELCOME PLANNED ENROLLMENT AT UDS

Some Ghanaian students who were studying in Ukraine before Russia's invasion applauded the University for development studies' (UDS) declaration that they would be able to complete their health professional education there.

This comes after the administration vowed to assist students in continuing their education after the were evacuated.

The 'special education project' will give all African health professional students who were relocated as a result of the Ukraine-Russia war the option to finish their studies at the UDS school of Medicine.

While praising the move, Philip Bobbie-Ansah, president of the National Union of Ghana students, Ukraine Chapter, argued for classes to resume in September 2022 rather than January 2023.

"It is good to learn that UDS has put in place procedures to absorb us." Our only concern is that the integration will take place in January of next year. I'm not sure why things are taking so long. We are just asking if we can do it in September instead, since staying at home for so long without doing anything makes you Rusty, " he explained.

The collaboration between UDS - School of medicine, AMPHAT Ghana, and partners of New York University has enabled has enabled the displaced Ghanaian students who evacuated from Ukraine as a result of the Ukraine-Russia war to continue their health professional studies at the University for development studies.

Prof. Gabriel Ayum True, Vice- Chancellor of the University for development studies, declared at the University special congregation ceremony in Tamale, Ghana that "this position has been unanimously approved. The Vice-Chancellor indicated that the University together with it's partners, will in the coming months till out details on the enrollment and implementation of the support to the affected students.

According to the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Ministry, about 400 students were evacuated as a result of the crisis.
